Professor Dato’ Dr Husaini Omar appointed as new MOHE Director General

Prof Dato’ Dr Husaini Omar, who was previously the chief executive officer of Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), has been appointed the new Director-General of the Ministry of Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) with effect from 1 Feb 2021. He succeeds Prof Dato’ Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak who retired on 10 Jan 2021.
Prof Dato’ Dr Husaini Omar holds a Bachelor of Science (Geology) (Hons) from the University of Malaya (UM), an Engineering Geology Masters degree from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, and a Doctor of Engineering (System Engineering) from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
He worked as a geology engineer for eight years before becoming a a university lecturer at the Engineering Faculty in UPM in 1996. He was subsequently promoted to Associate Professor in 2002 and later a Professor in 2011.
In 2017, he was appointed UPM deputy vice-chancellor (research and innovation) and in the following year, he took on the role of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan vice-chancellor.
