Education Blueprint: Improvements in English proficiency
July 28, 2015 | National NewsKUALA LUMPUR: Some 10,502 of English teachers had been re-trained under the Programme for English Language Teachers (ProELT).
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said more focused efforts to boost English language proficiency was carried out by also identifying 1,191 hotspot schools.
"The number of students with passing mark in English at the selected schools were below the national average," he said in his speech at the launch of the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2014 Annual Report earlier.
He said intervention programmes for students encompassed components both in and out of the classroom.
"For co-curricular component, the ministry had collaborated with various agencies including the American embassy and local academies," said Muhyiddin Yassin who is also the Education Minister.
